Wild Wonders Safari in Tanzania: September 27 - October 3, 2026

We’ll start our adventure in Arusha, the gateway to Tanzania’s wild wonders, before setting off to explore some of the country’s most iconic destinations: the elephant-rich landscapes of Tarangire National Park, the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater, and the legendary golden plains of the Serengeti.

For those who want to extend the journey, optional add-ons include a relaxing escape to Zanzibar’s white sand beaches or the challenge of a lifetime—climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro.

iTINERARY

Day 1 - Sept 27th - Arrive in Arusha

Fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where a friendly face will greet you for your private transfer to Arusha (about a 1-hour  drive).

Check in at Kili Seasons Hotel (or similar).  Welcome dinner at 6pm at the hotel restaurant.

Travel Note: Please plan your flight to arrive by 3:00 pm to join our Welcome Dinner at 6:00 pm. Arriving a day early is recommended so you have time to rest and adjust to the time change—but it’s entirely up to you. If you choose to come in early, we can assist with  booking an extra night at the hotel. Guests who come in beforehand can also enjoy optional excursions (at an additional cost), such as a local cooking class, a visit to a waterfall, or a guided tour of Arusha.

Day 2 - Sept 28th - Arusha -> Tarangire -> Karatu

After breakfast, we’ll depart for Tarangire National Park (~2.5hr drive).

Tarangire National Park is known for its iconic baobab trees and massive elephant herds. Enjoy a thrilling game drive with lunch in a scenic picnic area, and a meaningful visit to a local Maasai village to learn about their rich culture and traditions.

After our authentic visit with the Maasai, we’ll transfer to Karatu, where we’ll spend the next two nights.

While today is a long and exciting day, it’s designed to give us a head start and position us near the Ngorongoro Crater so we can see the animals at their most active - early in the morning. Don’t worry, we’ve made sure tomorrow includes some leisurely hours for you to relax, recharge, and soak it all in.

Overnight at Acacia Farm Lodge (or similar).

Day 3 - Sept 29th - Karatu -> Ngorongoro Crater

After an early breakfast, we'll depart for the Ngorongoro Crater (~1hr drive).

Prepare to be awestruck as we descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, home to over 25,000 animals, including rhinos, lions, elephants, and flamingos. This is one of the best places in Africa to see the “Big  Five” in a single day.

We’ll return to Acacia Farm Lodge in the afternoon so you have time to unwind and relax. You might choose to rest by the pool, or, if you’d like to explore more, you can join a guided farm walk right on the property. Led by the Lodge’s professional Naturalist, this fun and educational tour takes you through the coffee farm and vegetable garden.

Overnight at Acacia Farm Lodge (or similar).

Day 4 - Sept 30th - Karatu -> Serengeti

Today we journey into the legendary Serengeti. Enjoying sweeping views of the plains along the way (~3hr drive).

This is the Africa you’ve dreamed of—endless golden grasslands dotted with acacia trees, roaming herds, and dramatic skies. We'll enjoy a picnic lunch en route and once we pass the gates of the park, our safari begins!

Check in at Land of Nature Tented Camp where we will stay for the next 3 nights.

Day 5 - Oct 1st - Serengeti + Optional Hot Air Balloon

Enjoy a full day of immersive game drives across the vast Serengeti plains, searching for iconic wildlife and soaking in the breathtaking landscape that defines this legendary park.

Optional: Hot Air Balloon Safari

For those interested, an optional Hot Air Balloon Safari (additional $600) offers a spectacular sunrise flight over the Serengeti, providing a unique perspective on the wildlife below, followed by a celebratory champagne breakfast in the bush.

If you prefer to stay on the ground, an early morning game drive is included, giving you the chance to catch some of the Serengeti’s most active wildlife moments from the comfort of your safari vehicle. We’ll all regroup later in the morning for a full-day game drive.

Overnight at Land of Nature Tented Camp.

Day 6 - Oct 2nd - Serengeti

Spend the day immersed in the Serengeti’s breathtaking landscape with a full-day game drive. Watch for cheetahs sprinting across the plains, herds of elephants gathering at watering holes, and countless other  incredible wildlife moments.

Overnight at Land of Nature Tented Camp.

Day 7 - Oct 3rd - Serengeti -> Arusha

Goodbye Serengeti :( Rise early for a final morning game drive before our transfer to the Seronera Airstrip for your flight back to Arusha. This flight is included in your safari package.

If you plan to fly straight home, your flight can be booked out of Kilimanjaro (JRO) anytime after 5pm on October 3rd.

Who is this trip for?

Adults Only (18+)
You must be 18 or older to join this trip. Most of our travelers are in their 40s, 50s, and beyond — adventurous spirits who value connection, curiosity, and a deeper style of travel.

Physically Adaptable
You don’t need to be an athlete, but a sense of adventure helps! Expect long, bumpy drives across dirt roads, limited access to restrooms during travel days (yes, sometimes that means squatting in the bush), and the general unpredictability that comes with exploring remote areas.

Comfortably Rugged
Our camps offer the perfect balance of comfort and immersion — think real beds, hot showers, and flushing toilets. While you won’t find air conditioning or resort-style luxury, the atmosphere is authentic and cozy, with mild daytime temperatures and cool evenings. WiFi is available for basic needs but not ideal for working remotely or uploading large files.

Open-Minded & Group-Oriented
Group travel in Africa requires flexibility, patience, and a willingness to go with the flow. We prioritize shared experiences — which sometimes means adjusting plans, compromising on timing, or embracing the unexpected.

Solo Travelers & Couples Welcome
This trip is open to everyone — solo travelers, friends, and couples alike.

LGBTQ+ Friendly
All travelers are welcome here. Safari Lauri embraces inclusivity and respect for all guests.

Dietary Needs
Most dietary restrictions can be accommodated. If you have specific needs or concerns, please reach out before booking so we can ensure your comfort.
